Your Will Brief and meaningful. If we only do our will, our minds have not opened to Divine Wisdom. If we heed G-d’s Will, we will go beyond our capacity to be stuck with our limited understanding. Let yourself go and heed the teachings even if they don’t coincide with your will and watch what happens. ( if by remote chance you feel nothing happened while giving it your best shot, come back. I’ll give you back the money it cost to invest). Reply

Faith is not about data. Rather, belief in the Almighty is as a chasm to cross. Some feel insecure about taking this leap, especially in academia. I pity them because I know what it is to reap the harvest proper faith can bring, and before that, I know what it is to know the emptiness that comes with atheism. Reply

I love that some of G-d's commands do not make sense to us right away.
For example the Passover instruction to break the donkey's neck if it's not redeemed by a lamb. Say what?

So what's the Opposite? What's the opposite of this then, to do without making sense?
Do we not all do what makes sense to us, like an American driving in London, it doesn't make sense, but you can learn it and do it?

G_d's Will is Out of this World Our 'world' is entrenched in egoism - within our egoistic reasoning we will always choose that which benefits the self.

G_d's 'World' is the opposite concept - we exit our self needs. Rather we feel others as if they were me. Try shift your perception to His world - Does it make sense to you to forget about yourself?

Tha's why He has cunningly organized us into a tighly connected global villiage to illuminate the fact that we need to all lose our self in order to sustain and serve the collective system in which we are all immersed. We won't be able to hide in our shells and turn our backs on others anymore.

Gradually, after the world suffers many crises, we will learn to make sense out of G_d's World. Now we need to take a leap of faith to cross the Red Sea into His 'World'. Reply

Just wanted to say you've done alot of great great work helping others in your community with your writings and I hope I never ever let you think I feel otherwise about where you stand. Here is my statement for Your Will: Everything is a test-between G-d and the devil and one has to decide what to do -that is experiencing your will-So who decides what to do to protect one against the devil then? G-d does-what about the mistakes, the regrets- don't lean too heavily on them- causes an imbalance in the system and more mistakes and regrets. Reply

Rabbi Freeman,- I don't want to nitpick at you on all of your commentaries, but you start with the wrong question here:

It is G-d that gave us, we human beings, the ability to make sense of things (and yes, even HIm).

You who have studied kabballah know that the mind is the 'crown'; the chochma and the bimah and the rest are only the supporting cast.

You know, Rabbi Freeman, that Jews daven (pray) standing up, and such the closest part of them to G-d while they do so are their minds.

Jews don't prostrate their minds, as do the Muslims, nor chant mind-numbing mantras, as do the Buddhists and the Hindis, nor scream and shout so they can't hear themselves think, as do so many of the Xtianists.

Jews lead with their minds, for the Talmud says (here I go again)-'a king leads with his mind, a fool with his heart'.

It was Rabbi Akiva who used to say-'it is more important to ask good questions then to have the right answers.'

There are times where it is more G-dly of us to question then to just know. Reply

YOUR WILL Because if we are doing His will because we love him, then we are not doing it because it makes sense to us.
It is all out of LOVE.

This is tricky I find the Will of G-d is the unfolding of events and responding to it appropriately at the moment it is called for. Responding to add that illogical drop of good that will push the odds to the direction of change for the better.

Sometimes, you have to change a habitual pattern. I find this is more about transcendent acceptance of G-d's Will.

Like saying. This is what is called for right now. It does not make any sense. But the events have led me here in this point in time where I have to make this decision to let go or take action, when it is just so easy to do the opposite. Reply
